NAVIGATION MENU
File: Click on "Browse", select you input LAS file, and click on "Open". After that you will see LAS summary, and a list of logs found in this file. You can select which logs to display, and change vertical scale by changing window size.
Logs: Use "Logs" menu to display logs available in LAS file. You can save pictures of zoomed curves from the left upper corner of log panels by selecting a camera sign. It will be saved as a png file.
Derived logs / Velocity: Use this menu item to display interval and RMS veloscity, and any derived logs.
If sonic log with transition time DT is available, this tool can calculate two derived logs:
interval and RMS velocity that can be used for depth migration and checking velocity trend for seismic data processing.
Cross-plots: To select logs for cross-plots display. The first selected log will be on horizontal axis, the second log and all other will be on vertical axis.
Cross-plots2: Use this to display a cross-plot with two source logs, select depth interval for cross-plot, calculate linear regression, Gardner and Gardner-like functions.
Use "Update" button to display or update crossplots with different depth interval.
Synthetic seismic: Use this menu to create a synthetic trace from sonic log. You can change frequency of Ricker wavelet.
You can also see how it works using Model radio button.
Use "Update plot" to plot convloved trace with another frequency.
Model: Use this menu to create a synthetic trace from your model defined in CSV file.
There are two formats: time (s), reflectivity, and depth(m), vel (m/s), density(g/cm3).
Here are two examples of input CSV files:
File1
time (s),reflectivity
1.2,0.5
2.,-0.8
File2
depth (m), vel (m/s), density (g/cm3)
400,3600,2.3
1500,6700,2.75
1750,4500,2.2
2250,6000,2.6
Use "Update plot" to plot synthetic traces trace on new data.
FORMATION TOPS PLOT
Plot tops from LAS: If your LAS file has Tops Data Section(s), you can plot tops on log display.
You can turn on and off top lines, and fill zones between tops with color.
Plot tops from CSV file: Alternatively, you can input tops data from CSV file.
Here is an example of CSV file:
TOP NAME, UNIT, DEPTH, R, G, B
FORMATION 1 TOP, .M, 451.0000, 128,197,221
FORMATION 2 TOP, .M, 531.0000, 189,140,195
FORMATION 3 TOP, .M, 579.0000, 152, 57, 153
The last three columns are not necessary. You can use them to color intervals between tops.
You can get the RGB Standard Color Codes for the Geological Time Scale from:
timescalefoundation.org/charts/rgb.html
to fill R, G, B columns. Use "Read tops from" menu to select source for tops data.
This LAS Viewer is a web application developed by Rocky Mountain Seismic Software.
It can be used for learning purpouses or a real work by geophysicists to view logs in LAS files,
and also to get some calculated logs.
No installation is necessary, you can run this tool from your browser window.
After you browse and input LAS file, you will see LAS summary, and a list of logs found in this file.
You can select which logs to display, and change vertical scale by changing window size.
You can save pictures of zoomed curves from the left upper corner of log panels by selecting a camera sign. It will be saved as a png file.
If sonic log with transition time DT is available, this tool can calculate two derived logs:
instant velocity and RMS velocity that can be used to get velocity control points and check velocity trend for seismic data processing.
New features
Version 9.1. User can switch between time and depth display.
Version 9.2. "Vertical units" menu to switch between depth in meters, in feet and 2-way time display.
Version 10.2. Added two derived logs in alternative units to show velocity plots in m/sec or ft/sec.
Version 11.0. Added cross-plots with select color option. Improved menu and program structure.
Version 12.4. Added synthetic seismic, multiple crossplots.
Version 12.7. Crossplots with two logs, user can select depth interval for crossplots, trend functions.
Version 13.6. Users can input their models to calculate synthetic seismic (reflectivity or velosity/density).
Version 14.2, 14.3. Synthetic seismic with transmission loss, synthetic seismic with multiples.
Version 15.0. Display of formation tops, input from LAS or CSV file.
Version 16.1. Crossplots for three logs with colorbar.
